Why I chose Advo after nearly a decade as a Functional Assessor

I’m Sean Sutton, a Functional Assessor at Advo Health. I’ve worked in this role for nearly nine years, starting my career in WCA with another provider. In early 2025, I made the move to Advo during a period of organisational change, looking for a fully remote opportunity that better aligned with my professional goals. I joined the New Entrant Training Team after speaking with several former colleagues who were already part of Advo, and their feedback was overwhelmingly positive. They described a team united by shared goals, mutual support, and a clear vision for the future.

Having now been with Advo Health for almost eleven months, I have experienced that vision and those values firsthand. Advo takes great pride in its core values of being Caring, Dependable, Pioneering, and United, and these are truly embedded throughout the organisation. Everyone, from health professionals to management, is approachable and willing to listen, creating a genuinely supportive environment.

Over the past eleven months, I am particularly proud of how quickly I have settled into my role as a WCA Functional Assessor, Stage 3 Mentor, and Trainer. I have had the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of how we support both our health professionals and new entrants. Representing the business and supporting new colleagues on their journey has been a rewarding experience. The Advo team is constantly exploring new ideas to enhance our service and ensure that every member of staff feels valued and supported.

I would highly recommend Advo Health to any experienced practitioners seeking a new challenge. The company’s values are not just words; they are lived daily in how we work and connect.

The workplace culture at Advo Health is strong, positive, and deeply collaborative, even in a fully remote setting. It fosters professional growth and is clearly aligned with success, and I’m proud to be part of this team. It’s an environment that keeps me motivated every day, where successes are celebrated and support is always readily available, no matter where you’re working from.

When I first started working from home, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Would I miss the buzz of the office? Would I feel isolated? What I quickly discovered is that remote working has given me incredible balance between work and home life.

Having the flexibility means I can be as productive as possible while still making plenty of space for my family. This sense of control has made a huge difference to both my focus and wellbeing.

One of the biggest surprises has been how connected I still feel to my colleagues. We talk every day, share ideas, and support each other. I never feel like I’m missing out on anything.

Looking back, I can honestly say remote working has been a perfect fit for me. It’s given me the freedom to do my best work while still being present for the moments that matter most at home, all while staying connected to my team.

If I were to summarise my experience at Advo Health in three words, they would be: Collaborative, supportive, and belonging.
