Celebrating one year of HAAS at Advo Health

This September we celebrate a special milestone: one year since Advo Health began delivering the Health Assessment Advisory Service (HAAS). It has been a year of hard work, dedication, and resilience from our colleagues, who have shown what’s possible when compassion and professionalism come together.
In just twelve months, there has been so much to be proud of. We have carried out more than 90,000 assessments across the East and West of England. We welcomed over 200 new colleagues when the contract began in September 2024, and since then our workforce has grown by another 15%. Most importantly, we have built a service that reflects our values – caring for people with compassion, supporting one another, and striving for high standards whilst also adapting to change.
HAAS was commissioned by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to bring together what were previously separate contracts for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) assessments, Work Capability Assessments (WCA) for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and Universal Credit (UC), as well as a number of specialist benefits services. It is delivered through a strong partnership between Serco, Ingeus and Advo Health, working side by side to provide assessments that are consistent, fair, and carried out with care.
HAAS also marked the introduction of the Functional Assessor role, replacing the former Disability Assessor model. Our assessors are highly skilled healthcare professionals – nurses, physiotherapists, paramedics, pharmacists, occupational therapists and doctors – who use their clinical expertise to carry out detailed functional and disability assessments. It’s challenging work, but also rewarding, offering the chance to broaden clinical knowledge while making a real difference.
We’re grateful to all new colleagues who joined us this year, and to those already part of Advo who embraced change and led the way. Your commitment, compassion, and professionalism have been at the heart of everything we achieved. And as we celebrate this first year, we’re excited for what lies ahead, continuing to grow, improve, and build a service we can all be proud of.
Reflecting on this milestone, Adam Jarvis, Managing Director of Advo Health, said:
“This has been a year of growth, learning, and achievement. I’m proud of how our colleagues have come together to deliver HAAS with care and professionalism. It hasn’t always been easy, but their resilience and teamwork have set a strong foundation for the future. Today is about recognising those efforts and looking forward with confidence to what we can achieve next.”
